The recent debate workshop that was conducted at DPS Bangalore North by the students of the National Law School of India University proved to a very insightful, profound yet fun experience for the handful of
articulate students from grades 8-12 who were meticulously picked by the English and Classics faculty.
The pupils of DPS became the pupils of the delegation of speakers extraordinaire as both groups convened over the intricacies of the art of effective and eloquent speech. Discussing in depth the various stages involved in formulating a convincing, fool proof, resonant and stimulating argument. The delegation enlightened the students upon the importance of a strong logical premise and of logical assembly of the argument, meanwhile also stating as to how one could deploy the use of rhetoric to counter a logical spur and capture the minds of the listening audience. The delegation then proceeded on to enlighten the students about an immensely popular and fast growing form of debate: The Parliamentary Debate. The session finally concluded when the delegation selected 4 participants from the student body, groomed them for fifteen minutes before pitting them against each other in teams of 2 which also comprised of one member each from the delegation in the
Parliamentary form
The session that lasted for the better part of the day was received with great eagerness and enthusiasm on behalf of the student body. The undergraduates managed to successfully accomplish one of the toughest tasks; keeping the audience in sync with the flow of the presentation. Finally when questioned about how they found the workshop, "They were just brilliant! I got hooked on from the first second and couldn't let go!" says Mahika Pavithran of class X A, "It was one of the most stimulating experiences ever" says Nachiketh of class VIII B, " We didn't lose any hard money in the 2G spectrum, I didn't know that( in relevance with one of the topics discussed during the debate)" – Amatoullah Yousuf IX E.
The students were unanimous in their enthusiasim towards attending the parliament debate tournament to be held at NLSIU later in the year.
